The Netflix streaming service, which has prepared a lot of interesting movie releases this year, has finally presented the first trailer for the psychological thriller Leave the World Behind, based on the 2020 bestseller of the same name by Rumaan Alam.
The film, whose title literally translates as “Leave the World Behind,” centers on a couple who decide to spend their vacation in a rented house in a remote part of Long Island. However, the owners of the house suddenly return and inform them that a catastrophe has occurred in New York City as a result of a powerful cyberattack that has devastating consequences.
The film stars Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman, Erin Brockovich, Ocean’s Eleven), Ethan Hawke (Gattaca, Training Day, Sinister), Mahershala Ali (The Place Beyond the Pines, Moonlight, Green Book), Michaela Herrold (Bodies Bodies Bodies, Dumb Money, Black Mirror) and Kevin Bacon (Hollow Man, Mystic River, X: First Class).
The film was directed and written by Sam Esmail, best known as the creator of the TV series Mr. Robot (2015-2019) and the director of the first season of the TV series Homecoming (2018) with Julia Roberts. At the same time, his last feature film, the romantic comedy Comet, was released in 2014.
The film is scheduled to have its world premiere on October 25, 2023, and is due for a limited release in the United States on November 22. For a wider audience, the film will be available online on Netflix on December 8, 2023.
