Warner Bros. Pictures has finally unveiled the first trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the 15th film in the DC Extended Universe and the second Arthur Curry solo movie.
From the trailer, viewers learned that the movie takes place a few years after the end of the first part. Now Arthur Curry is the new king of Atlantis. However, old enemies are back, wanting to destroy everything that is dear to Aquaman – and now, to fight the crazy pirate nicknamed Black Manta, the king of Atlantis will have to join forces with his half-brother Orm Marius, with whom he also has not the best relationship.
Jason Momoa (Arthur Curry / Aquaman), Amber Heard (Princess Mera), Willem Dafoe (Nuidis Vulko), Patrick Wilson (Orm Marius / Lord of the Ocean), Dolph Lundgren (King Nereus) will return to their roles in the new film, Nicole Kidman (Atlanna), Temuir Morrison (Thomas Curry), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (David Kane/Black Manta) and Randall Park (Dr. Stephen Sheen), whom the audience has already met in the first film.
Among the newcomers to the franchise is Danish actor Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones, Ghost in the Shell, Overlord). It is not yet known whom he will play.
The film will also feature the character of Karshon, played by India Moore, and Vincent Regan (Troy, 300 Spartans) will play the role of the first king of Atlantis, Atlas.
The film is directed by James Wan, who also directed the first Aquaman. In addition, he is known as the creator of some of the most successful horror franchises in history – Saw, Astral and The Conjuring.
The film is due for release on December 20, 2023.
It is worth noting that the filming of the movie was relentless – it was repeatedly postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. There were also concerns about how the scandalous lawsuit between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard would affect the fate of the film – after the actress was found guilty of defaming her ex-husband, there were rumors that she would either be cut from the film altogether, or her presence would be minimized, or she would be replaced by another actress.
In the end, Heard was spotted on the set of the film, but we will only know what her character’s fate will be after watching the movie. By the way, the new trailer barely shows her character.
