The Apple TV+ streaming service has unveiled the first trailer for the sci-fi adventure TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which will become part of the MonsterVerse.
The main events of the series take place after the movie Godzilla (2014). Back then, as a result of the epic battle between Godzilla and MUTO, San Francisco was practically destroyed, and the world made the shocking discovery that monsters are real. The plot of the series centers on a brother and sister who, following in their father’s footsteps, discover their family’s connection to a secret organization known as the Monarch and meet the mysterious officer Lee Shaw, who knows everything about monsters.
The role of Lee Shaw in the series was played by Kurt Russell (Escape from New York, Overboard, The Hateful Eight, The Fast and the Furious franchise). Interestingly, the same character, but at a young age, was played by the actor’s own son and his wife, actress Goldie Hawn, Wyatt Russell (Overlord, Black Mirror, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier).
The TV series also features John Goodman, who reprises the role of Bill Randa’s Monarch researcher, which he already played in Kong: Skull Island. Anders Holm (TV series “Workaholics”, “The Mindy Project”, “Inventing Anna”) will play the role of young Randa.
The premiere of the TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is scheduled to premiere on November 17, 2023. In total, the first season of the series will consist of 10 episodes, the first two of which will be released simultaneously.
MonsterVerse – what is known
The MonsterVerse media franchise includes the Godzilla and King Kong films produced by Warner Bros.
The first movie in the Godzilla franchise was released in 2014. Three more films followed: Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021). The next film in the series, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is due for release in April 2024.
In addition, in the summer of 2023, Netflix released an eight-episode animated TV series Kong: Skull Island, which became the first series within the MonsterVerse. “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will be the second multi-part project in the franchise.
